Borax Materia Medica
(a sodium salt, sodium biborate)
Areas affected include the nerves, mucous membranes, mouth, skin, kidneys, bladder
Mucous membranes causing aphthous ulcers and catarrhal conditions
Discharges are thick, hot and biting
APPEARANCE
Emaciated, pale looking children with aphthous condition and gastric problems of poor digestion and diarrhoea
Hair that is tangled, knotted
Eyelids with gummy exudation, nostrils with crusts, inflamed and and excoriating discharge
Skin is unhealthy easily suppurating after any slight injury (D/D Hepar,Merc, Sil) will not heal
Psoriasis, Dry Skin
Red papulous eruption on cheeks and around chin
Infants cyanotic at birth
Anxious expression during downward movement
APHTHOUS ULCERS
Aphthae that are sore and tender preventing nursing with the child letting go of the nipple crying in pain or may refuse the breast altogether
Small vesicles around the mouth and forehead
Ulcers bleed on touch or eating
DISCHARGES
Not only the mucous membranes of the mouth are affected but everywhere else as well
The eyelashes become gummy and stick together or turn inward
The ears discharge
Oral thrush
Tendency to dribble associated with inflammation of the gums
Leucorrhoea and nasal discharges
Starch leucorrhoea running down legs and feels like warm water
The cough with expectoration has a herby taste to it
Pleuritis of the right side
Tendency for catarrhal discharges (Nat Mur-white discharges. Nat Sulph-green discharges)
Discharge of pus from both ears
AGGRAVATIONS
Downward motion
Sudden noises
Rocking, being dangled up and down
Cold, wet
Fruit causing diarrhoea
Vomiting of sour slime after eating chocolate
AMELIORATION
After 11 p.m.
MENTALS
Senses/sensitivities
Marked sensitivity to noise
Excessively nervous especially to noise
Easily startled (from slightest noise, cough, rattle of paper)
Senses are very acute especially hearing
Oversensitive to surroundings, heightened awareness
FEARS
Fear of falling
Fear of thunderstorms
Fear of being infected by some contagious disease
Fear of downward motion (D/D Gels)
Scream when put down
Clinging to person/furniture
Dizziness riding down hill up up and down elevator
Wakes at night frightened, screaming, needs to cling to something
MOTION
Rocking aggravates
Car motion/sickness (D/D Cocculus Ind)
RESTLESSNESS
Restless in the afternoon
Nervous restlessness: can’t stay still needs to be busy
FOOD
Food has no taste
Diarrhoea after breakfast
Diarrhoea after fruit
Thirst but vomiting after drinking
Nausea when concentrating
PQRS
While engaged in thinking at work there is strong nausea
Intense concentration leads to nausea
Irritable (screams or shouts) before passing stool or urine
