Borax
(A sodium salt, sodium biborate)
Borax was an, emaciated, forlorn looking child, with pale porcelain skin, almost translucent. Cyanotic from birth, Borax’s mother figured that pale skin was better than blue skin and paid no heed to comments about her daughter’s translucent skin. Borax's hair had lost its once beautiful golden shade amongst the mass of tangles and knots. No one took the time to care for her locks, her hair would be cropped short as usual when a note would be sent home with one of her older sisters from the school nurse informing her mother of yet another lice infestation.. Borax’s beautiful corn blue eyes were hidden behind eyelids caked with gummy exudation, her eyelashes would clump together and some would turn inward scratching the delicate membrane causing redness and inflammation. Her nostrils were crusted from the continuous nasal discharge, and the sadly neglected Borax would chisel away at the crustaceans with her little dirty finger nails trying to free the trapped skin. And she couldn't help but perpetually rub and irritate the red papulous eruptions on her cheeks and around her chin. She was aggravated by the cold and wet (and > cold weather). And as a consequence during the winter months she had to contend with a continual cough with expectoration that surprisingly tasted of herbs,. She had a tendency for catarrhal discharge, the discharges tended to be thick, hot and biting and the passive smoking she was subject to from her chain smoking mother made her feel either nausea or gave her diarrhoea. The house was never warm in the winter, drugs were the priority in the household not heat and fuel supplies had been disconnected not infrequently in the past. Borax was nutrient deficient. She rarely ate fresh vegetables or fruit, fruit was a luxury in their home, it was too expensive for her mothers purse, and on the rare occasion that she did eat a piece of fruit it caused diarrhoea.......
