Abstract
An experimental study was carried out in all patients with traumatic or postsurgical hyphema who presented to the emergency unit or ophthalmology department of the General Calixto García Hospital of the Plaza de La Revolución municipality between December 2008 and August 2009. The objective was to determine the effectiveness of the use of homeopathic remedies in these entities. The homeopathic medications used were arnica and phosphorus at 6 ch and 30 ch respectively. The sample was composed of 36 patients (aged 15 to 70 years old) divided into two groups: one was administered homeopathic plus conventional treatment and the other was administered conventional treatment only. More than 50 % resolution of the magnitude of the ocular manifestation occurred in the first 48 hours, and total resolution occurred during the first 4 days in homeopathically-treated patients. There were no complications during the treatment and no surgical treatment was required.
