Syphilis Miasm Materia Medica
Syphilis is the second chronic miasm. It is one of the venereal diseases. It is caused by the inoculation of a spiral germ, Treponema pallidum into the skin or mucous membrane. The syphilitic miasma is the result of impure coition
Syphilitic Miasm is known as the Destructive Miasm
Mentals
- Delusional that they are faced with a situation that is beyond salvage, leading to complete hopelessness and despair.
- Pessimistic, they believe it is impossible to modify what has already gone wrong, it has to be radically changed or destroyed
- Desperate to change either oneself or environment, a violent process - a last ditch attempt
- Impulsive and violent to any situation e.g. insult, criticism, domination
- Occasional sudden violence directed at himself (self hate) or others
- Very rigid ideas at self and the situation
- Dictatorial
- Aggravated by contradiction
- Not amenable to change
- The situation is desperate and hopeless and I can’t cope - the only way out is death and destruction.
- Patients with inherited syphilis are imbeciles and idiotic
- Dull, stupid, sullen, morose
- Depression, but keeps his depression to himself
- Melancholy and condemn themselves
- Suspicious/mistrustful
- Doesn’t like company, wants to be alone
- Slowness of comprehension, thoughts vanish(a kind of mental paralysis they forget what they are about to say) - Reads but cannot retain it
- Has a disgust for life and dwells on suicide (can easily destroy himself, or anybody or any precious thing)
- An urge for destruction seems to be his only emotion
- Homicidal
- Cruelty
- Indulges in antisocial activities
- Desire to escape from themselves and others
- Restlessness
- Fear of contamination - frequently wash their hands
Modalities
Desires - cold food and drink, stimulants (alcohol, tea, coffee, tobacco) indigestible food
Aversion - meat
Better - sunrise to sunset, abnormal discharges e.g. leukorrhea
Worse - sunset to sunrise, thunderstorms, general change of weather
Appearance
- Head is large and bulging
- Hair is moist, gluey, greasy with offensive odour
